You know what it’s like to burn

When I cry out because I’m burning
I know I will be answered
I know I will be heard
Not by the nurturers
Not by the safe and the serene

But by the ones who burn

Because we don’t cry out for rescue
We don’t cry out for mercy
We cry out for eachother
Call of the wild
From the need
From the hunger

When I can’t take any more burning
I know it will continue
I know the fire will rise

Not because I don’t know how to stop it
Not because I don’t know what it is
But because there is always another burning
Another who is answering

We cry out for more ignition
We cry out for more and more
We are mirrors for our flames
To see ourselves reflected in fire
To know what it means to
Get too close to the light
We will embrace the peril
For the sanctity of sparks in our eyes

When I feel the burning
I will call
I will signal
The smoke will appear
As it has before
And I expect to see on the horizon
The answer in the sky
The fire in words
The reply:
The heat is here too
Come burn
Come burn
Come, burn.
